Dr. Robert Holmes is a Senior Principal Engineer based in St. Louis, Missouri, consulting on matters related to floods, hydrology, shallow groundwater flow, water availability, streamflow-data collection, stream ratings, sediment transport, river mechanics, debris-flow modeling, and hydraulics of both open channels and pressurized pipes. Dr. Holmes focused on these specialized areas of hydrology and hydraulics during his 30+ years as chief of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Branch of Hydrodynamics and 22 years as civil engineering professor and research engineer at the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Illinois. He is a licensed professional engineer in Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas, a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers, a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a Fellow of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI), a past President of the Mid-Missouri Section of ASCE, and past Chair of the St. Louis Section of EWRI.
