WWE provides services for special districts, tribes, municipalities, counties, states, and the federal government.  Work for these entities has encompassed our full scope of services.

Government

WWE’s land development and redevelopment clients have ranged from single-family home builders to designers of essentially entire towns.  Water rights services and water supply analyses are often required during the planning stages, while water, wastewater, and drainage infrastructure, including pre- and post-project hydrology and water quality impact assessment and irrigation, are key components of development design.  Other considerations that WWE has addressed for developers include (as examples) floodplains, wetlands and other permitting, stream channel restoration/habitat enhancement, soils suitability, geologic hazards, aesthetic features, and watershed issues.

Land Development & Redevelopment

Over WWE’s long history, an area of focus has been wide-ranging water resources engineering assignments for the power utility industry.  For one major power utility, WWE handles stormwater permitting work, design of water quality protection measures, and evaluations of their hydroelectric facilities.  WWE also has performed valuations and economic analyses of private water and wastewater companies that are under Public Utility Commission (PUC) regulation.

WWE has worked for multiple oil and gas companies in the Rocky Mountains and midwestern states, performing most facets of water resources engineering.  WWE’s first oil and gas client was The Oil Shale Corporation in 1963.  Our work in the Piceance basin has continued to the present with Colony, Atlantic Richfield, and ExxonMobil.  WWE designed and supervised all water and sewer work for Exxon’s Battlement Mesa in the 1980s.  Our current services to oil and gas clients involve water rights, wetlands, drainage, permitting, produced water management, and water supply and quality issues related to hydraulic fracturing.

Numerous public and private sector agricultural entities in western and midwest states have worked with WWE. Services to the agricultural community have ranged from water rights to planning and design of irrigation infrastructure.  WWE provides “big picture” integrated water resources management services to agricultural clients to assist with long-term planning, as well as more detailed monitoring and design work at a site-specific scale.

Water resources are integral to most mining enterprises.  WWE has addressed water resources issues for companies extracting various hard rock minerals (e.g., gold, silver, uranium, molybdenum and copper), coal, and rock products (sand and gravel) in Colorado, Wyoming, Arkansas, Idaho, Nebraska, and South Dakota.

Ski Industry

WWE has been providing permitting and engineering services to the ski industry for more than 50 years. We have worked for many of the major resorts in Colorado and for resorts in Idaho, California, and Montana for both on-mountain activities and base area developments.  In the 1960s, WWE handled water rights for Vail, followed by the design of the water system for Mid Vail and later for Lionshead.  The early Vail work was followed by numerous assignments involving virtually all aspects of surface water and groundwater engineering.  At a number of resorts, WWE has performed water quality monitoring to document baseline water quality and stream biological health and to monitor for impacts from construction and development.  Many of WWE’s staff members are skiers and snowboarders, giving us special familiarity with the on-mountain layout of many of the Colorado ski resorts.
