Florida Canal Diversion Structure Rehabilitation Project

In 2024, WWE served as water resources engineer on the rehabilitation of the Florida Canal Diversion Structure on the Florida River near Durango. The structure, owned by the Florida Consolidated Ditch Company (FCDC), was deteriorating from age and in need of improvements. The FCDC collaborated with the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), and the landowner on this multi-purpose project to retrofit and stabilize the historical structure to improve safety and aquatic habitat.

pH: the chemistry behind the numbers

WWE’s beloved chemist, Dr. Bob Weiner, has produced a second video on pH in water—what is it and how do the values work? pH is a logarithmic scale measuring the acidity or basicity (alkalinity) of a solution, so understanding pH is more complicated than evaluating whether a constituent is simply above or below a particular standard.

Bob is an emeritus professor of chemistry from the University of Denver who has helped WWE with complex chemistry matters for more than 30 years. We first met Bob when he and Ruth Wright, wife of WWE founder Ken Wright, served on the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission together in the 1970s.
