WWE assisted the Forest Lakes Metropolitan District (FLMD) in Monument, Colorado, with additional water supply and design of a new surface water treatment plant to serve new development parcels.  WWE designed a 1 mgd drinking water treatment plant for FLMD that was completed in 2018.  This project involved updating the design of a raw water pump station and the drinking water treatment plant to meet applicable Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) regulations and local building code requirements.  WWE worked with equipment and material suppliers to provide the owner with an engineer’s estimate of capital construction costs and worked with the operations staff to develop the selected adsorption clarifier/multi-media filter process approach.

A major component of this water treatment plant project was a pipeline and raw water intake constructed in the interior of the Bristlecone Lake storage reservoir.  An intake screen was set at a depth of 17 feet and water is conveyed through a 30-inch pipe to a pumping station.  One of the unique aspects of the intake is the incorporation of a screen anchor system at the bottom of the reservoir.  Wide flange beams were driven into the lake bottom for anchor support.  The pumping station was constructed underground on the banks of the reservoir.  The construction dewatering required temporary bulkheads to be placed around the concrete structure.

WWE provided services during construction for the intake and treatment facility.
