Wetland Restoration and Creation

Pine Lake Wetlands

Representative Project

Pine Lake, located near Aspen, Colorado, was a shallow, historic gravel pond with steep banks limiting wetland establishment. WWE assisted in excavating the 4-acre lake over 15 feet in depth and restored and created an additional successful wetland bench around Pine Lake.  We oversaw planting operations and monitored the created wetland benches to ensure long-term success.  Existing habitat was enhanced through creation of shallow wetland benching and targeted plantings throughout.

WWE has monitored this site through annual collection of wetland plant data. Data is analyzed and Wetland Monitoring Reports have been submitted to the USACE over a 5-year period. Management recommendations and mapping for wetland enhancement are included in the report.  Each year, the project demonstrates greater success and has been approved by the USACE as having met success criteria.
