 Barr
Lake
Representative Project
WWE
developed a major drainageway master plan for a 50-square-mile area
northwest of the Denver International Airport known as Barr
Lake/Beebe Seep Canal.
We
were retained by the Denver Urban Drainage & Flood Control
District, Farmers Reservoir Irrigation Company, City of Brighton,
and Adams County. A major aspect of the study centered on
feasibility analysis of the use of regional stormwater storage
ponds. After extensive discussions with the project sponsors, it
became apparent that adequate funds would not be available in the
early years to finance such facilities.
The
project sponsors instructed WWE to develop a protocol for near-term
implementation of on-site best management practices, with regional
facilities projected in long-term plans. At the request of Adams
County and Commerce City, WWE developed guidelines for developers on
how much detention would need to be provided for projected land-use
characteristics. The final document was well received by the project
sponsors and other interested parties.
