Stream Channels and Lakes

Barnum Park Lake, Denver

Representative Project

WWE designed a dredging and lake improvement plan for Barnum Park Lake. This lake is part of the City and County of Denver lakes system. The goals of the project were to increase lake depth, enhance water quality, and improve uses of the lake. As part of the dredging and design, WWE performed a sedimentation study to assess the particle-size distribution of the sediments to be dredged. This study found that a conventionally designed sedimentation basin would not remove an adequate amount of solids due to the fine nature of the sediments. Wetland shelves, areas of willows, retaining walls and other features were integrated into the plan. Work also included a new outlet structure and inlet channel design.
