Blue-Green Water Resources Management
A continuous thread in WWE’s water resources planning and management work is sustainability. For example, WWE founder Ken Wright was among the first engineers in the United States to push “blue–green” approaches to stormwater management—that is, creating multipurpose greenways in urban areas to convey flood flows, provide parks, integrate trails, increase property values, provide wildlife habitat, improve water quality, etc. WWE has advocated the practice of disconnecting impervious surfaces with pervious areas (thereby promoting storage, infiltration and slowing down runoff) for decades—long before the terms “low impact development” and “green infrastructure” came into vogue.
